Between 2007 and 2010, Tsukuranai-Kai （Anti-Creative Meetings) had there were a total of 52 meetings in the Kanto area (including some cancelled due to rain), as well as several events. The three members were Naokatahra Hihoro, Nomoto Shohei and Sekine Maro, who later joined the group. After the events, only the title of each action, the person who came up with the idea and the person who carried it out were published on the association’s website. The aim was to create a community where ideas could be shared, rather than a work of art as a statement. The style of expression was, as the name suggests, anti-authority, anti-technology and anti-art. In this edited video, we have mainly edited the work done by two or three people. In between, we have included their characteristic performances of each members. These works are arranged in a roughly chronological order. The shorter performances are included in the video as they are, while the longer ones are edited (some scenes are skipped, some are shown only the beginning or the ending part of the work). However, the length of the performances is still important. What should we do with the resulting records and images? It has been more than ten years since we stopped our association. Looking back on it now, “more than a workshop but less than a work” is a perfect description of the“Anti-Creative Meetings”, and I think that we succeeded in our attempt to “create” such a thing. This time, we were able to make it public in IPAMIA’s archive. However, as an organiser, I can’t bear the thought of letting people see all the footage from the “Anti-Creative Meetings”. To be honest, I would like to have the early footage deleted. Furthermore, some of the footage includes contents that might not be legal. We took this opportunity to hastily pick up all the footage and edit the Essence video above. To put it bluntly, if you watch this video, you should be able to understand almost everything left behind by the group.Although it is only about an hour long, we hope that you will be able to feel the history, significance and philosophy of the group.
